Gray Matter Construction LLC | Concrete, Excavation, & Utility Company
Josh Dole, Paul Rahfeldt, Paul Nobiling, & Bulmaro Aguirre
Gray Matter Construction began as a thought between four business associates and friends to simply do something a little different. Having spent decades training and sharpening their technical skills and business acumen with ENR top contractors, they felt the corporate grind wasn’t where they would be most impactful on the industry and the community. The name Gray Matter comes from our passion to build work “smart” in the concrete industry. We put our clients first and strive to align our objectives with theirs. We believe in continuous training and development for our employees so they can reach their maximum potential.
Josh began his career as a construction management intern at Colorado State University and gained experience building water treatment facilities and bridges across California, Washington, Oregon, and Hawaii. Returning to Denver in 2015, he oversaw the construction of buildings, schools, hospitals, and data centers. In 2023, he co-founded Gray Matter Construction. Josh enjoys camping, fishing, and boating with his wife, Nicole, and their two children, Chloe and Asher, and is a devoted Colorado sports fan.
Paul graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in construction management and gained 10 years’ experience with a top 5 ENR contractor on projects from $1M to $2B. In 2022, he co-founded Gray Matter, where he oversees all financial, business, and project pursuits. Known for his analytical thinking and big-picture vision, Paul fosters collaboration and peak performance. He enjoys weekends with his wife and two kids, sneaks in golf, and returns to Nebraska to cheer on the Huskers.
Paul brings 34+ years of experience in heavy equipment operation to his role as Owner and Director of Equipment & Logistics. He earned his journeyman credentials in 2020 and a specialized substation license, and has excelled as a foreman operator overseeing complex projects, coordinating crews, and meeting with clients. At GMC, he has introduced advanced excavation techniques, optimized soil and demolition management, and ensured full compliance with safety standards. Known for his direct yet mellow communication and sense of humor, Paul fosters teamwork and camaraderie. Off duty, he enjoys boating, fishing, trying new restaurants with his wife, and spending time with family.
Bulmaro Aguirre began his career in 1999 in sheet metal roofing and siding, advancing from apprentice to journeyman with the Carpenters Union. He spent nearly two decades with union contractors before becoming Superintendent in 2018 and co-owner in 2023. Today, he directs trade personnel operations, from field supervision to recruiting and managing skilled workers with a people-first approach. Outside work, Bulmaro enjoys international travel, 4-wheeling, and horseback riding with his family.
